Autoperformance is a practical workshop led by Fat and Dumb - the artistic duo of Dominika Knapik (director, choreographer) and Patrycja Kowańska (dramaturg, writer). Created alongside our performances of the Very Trilogy at the Edinburgh Fringe, the workshop offers an introduction to the creative methods we have developed together over years of making interdisciplinary performance.
 

Our artistic practice explores autobiography, contemporary theatre, and the relationship between language, the body, and performance. Together, as Fat and Dumb, we create performances that blend humour, choreography, personal stories, and political reflection.
 

During the workshop, we will share the practical tools we use in our own rehearsal process. Participants will explore movement, text, improvisation, voice, lipsync, rhythm, repetition, and theatrical composition while discovering how these elements can work together to create meaning. We will investigate how autobiography can become artistic material and how simple actions, gestures, and words can generate unexpected theatrical situations. Our methods were developed through the creation of the Very Trilogy - an experimental performance project that combines autobiography, physical theatre, choreography, comedy, and social critique. The trilogy explores the body as both a personal and political space, using humour and formal experimentation to challenge stereotypes and question ideas about identity, labour, art, and everyday life.
 

This workshop is not about producing a finished performance. Instead, it is an opportunity to experience our way of working, experiment with our creative methods, and gain practical tools that participants can apply to their own artistic practice. We create an open, playful, and supportive environment where curiosity is more important than experience and where process matters more than perfection.
 

The workshop is open to professional artists, students, emerging performers, and anyone interested in contemporary theatre and performance.
 

Open to everyone aged 16+. No previous experience required.
