As Fat and Dumb we create uncompromising works on difficult topics. We mix text, body work, and video, crafting darkly comic pieces that examine the politics of the body, queer experience, and the precarious realities of freelancing. We are the authors of the “Very” trilogy—Very Funny, Very Sad, and Very Cheap—each a distorted, feminist, intensely physical response to canonical cultural texts.​

 

Our work takes the form of interdisciplinary performatory epigrams: short, sharp theatrical encounters where everything is deliberately derailed. Costumes, texts, visuals, voices, and bodies slip into states of excess, misalignment, and productive failure. The performances lean into clownish, abrasive humour—bold, insolent, and sometimes stuck in a swollen throat. By releasing a discursive–aesthetic unruliness that behaves like a small dramaturgical tornado, we stretch the limits of stage discipline and explore what sits at the edge of embarrassment.

 

Through this grotesque, joyful sabotage, we expose what it means to exist without privilege in a deeply hierarchical theatre ecosystem.Text and body remain equal partners in our artistic process. Every piece begins with a cultural reference—Shakespeare, Schubert, Bosch, Bruegel—and we attach ourselves to these works with artistic parasitism. We drain their solemn authority, infect the male gaze with the feministic perspective. We simultaneously search for tenderness, friendship, and the possibility of soft resistance.
